FAQs

I have a retina problem and glaucoma. Can these conditions be monitored in your office?

In most cases the answer is absolutely, yes. Dr. Kasprick has close working relationships with a number of surgical retina and surgical glaucoma specialists in the area and has managed many patients with advanced retina or glaucoma issues. If there is a need for a specialized procedure, surgery, or treatment that is not available in our office we facilitate getting you the care you need seamlessly.

I’m nervous about cataract surgery. How can you help me get through it?

It’s completely normal to be nervous about having a surgical procedure on something as important as your eyes. Your cataract surgery with Dr. Kasprick will typically take under 10 minutes and most patients experience no discomfort at all. He has been a patient himself many times and knows how it feels to be nervous for a procedure. We will talk you through every step of the process during your pre-surgery consultation and are confident you will be surprised at how easy the journey will be. We generally take care of one cataract first and then address the second cataract two weeks later. We can’t recall a single patient who has been nervous for their second surgery (which speaks to how easy the patient experience generally is for the first surgery).

I’ve heard I might not need glasses after cataract surgery. Is this true?

Yes! For many patients this is true and this is one of the most exciting and rewarding parts of the cataract surgery process. Nearly all patients will gain some degree of independence from needing glasses to see in the distance (10 feet and beyond) even if they choose a more basic lens with no out of pocket cost for the lens. Many patients take this once in a lifetime opportunity to correct their astigmatism with a toric lens implant or to have a multifocal (Alcon Panoptix) or extended depth of focus (Alcon Vivity) lens implanted which can significantly reduce your need for reading glasses. Dr. Kasprick’s only goal is to help you make the lens implant decision that is best for YOU and you will never feel any pressure to upgrade to a premium lens if you don’t feel it’s the best fit for you. With that being said, he loves the freedom that patients typically gain from multifocal IOL’s and he will make sure you understand all of your options.

Can I use my vision insurance at your office?

Northern Lakes Ophthalmology sees patients exclusively through medical insurance or cash pay. We do not accept vision insurance (VSP, David Vision, Heritage, etc) at this time.

I stopped driving at night a few years ago. Is this because of cataracts?

Many people cut back on their night time driving in their 60s and 70s. You might not even be aware that your vision has potentially played a role in your decreased comfort level with night time driving. If you have experienced difficulty seeing clearly in the rain or had trouble with oncoming headlight glare then there is a high likelihood that cataracts are the cause. While it might initially be disappointing to realize that cataract surgery is required to fix the problem, the process typically ends in a celebration with patients seeing better than they have in 20 or 30 years.

Do you see children in your office?

Yes, we certainly do and can manage many eye issues in children. Depending on your child’s needs we may refer you to a pediatric ophthalmologist for further specialized care. Please give us a call to discuss your child’s specific issue and if we feel it is more appropriate for your child’s initial appointment to be with a pediatric ophthalmology specialist then we will help to facilitate that appointment for you. We generally do not see patients under 7 years of age.
