Meet the Team
I don’t cut corners with patient care, and that starts with hiring the best team you will find anywhere. Our five core ophthalmic technicians have a combined 85 years of experience in providing a wide variety of high-quality ophthalmic services to patients in southeast Michigan. They are truly experts at what they do. Finding high-quality technicians can be challenging, but most of our core staff has been with me for at least 6 years. That long-term high-quality working relationship helps to ensure that you will receive an unparalleled level of care and attention in our clinic. I have developed our clinic in such a way that all of our technicians are also expert receptionists and administrative staff, and we all share in those duties. When you call Northern Lakes Ophthalmology, your call is answered by an experienced clinical team member who will ensure your needs are met from the beginning. You can expect to see the same faces each time you come in. We want to get to know you and your family, and we want you to feel like you know ours.
Kathleen has 25+ years of experience serving patients in various capacities and has developed a wide-ranging expert skill set during that time. She LOVES to chat and meet new people. Folks of all types instantly feel comfortable when they meet her. She has been married for 13 years and loves spending time with her husband and grandchildren at her Higgins Lake Cottage. Fun fact – she rode a motorcycle for many years (though she recently sold it) and she loves scruba diving in the Carribean.
Kathleen
Karen has 20+ years of providing expert quality ophthalmic services to patients who always feel that they are in very capable hands. We are grateful to have her on our team! She loves coming to work every day and is always happy to help patients and staff with anything they need. She has been married for 18 years and enjoys spending time with her 18-year-old son Max and 10-year-old daughter Sydney. Fun fact – she enjoys fall so much that she pretends it's fall all year round.
KAREN
Jess has 20 years of experience in the field and has worked in clinics as far as New Hampshire, and her vast experience in every area of the clinic makes her a critical member of our team. She always has a smile on her face, and you'll feel like you've known her for years. She has been married to Dr. K for 8 years (though, believe it or not, they did not meet each other through ophthalmology). They love hanging out with their 4-year-old Dallas and 6-year-old daughter Ava. Jess currently works in our optical shop when she isn’t helping us to see patients. Fun fact – she works out religiously at Fit Body Bootcamp (located in our building) at 5:30 AM daily.
JESS
Brooke has 5 years of ophthalmic patient care experience but make no mistake, she has quickly mastered her craft. After working with her for years at a previous job, Dr. K knew she'd be a perfect fit. Her rapid rise to being a high-quality tech is a testament to her strong work ethic and long-established working relationship with Kathleen and Karen, who trained her years ago. Brooke has been married for three years and loves spending time with her husband and her 3-year-old and 5-year-old boys. Fun fact – Brooke was a varsity soccer player at Chippewa Valley High School.
BROOKE
James is Dr. K's brother and has a BSN in nursing, so he brings a comprehensive medical skill set from his experience caring for hospitalized patients. His medical background has allowed him to pick up on our clinical workflow quickly, and he fills the gaps for us when needed. James quickly developed expertise in medical billing and has been a big help to our developing clinic. Fun fact – He is an avid fisherman and keeps a boat on Lake Saint Clair. He has also played acoustic and electric guitar for 20 years and loves talking about music.
